Book Review: Theodore Boone: The Abduction by John Grisham

What’s it about?

Theodore Boone is back in a new adventure, and the stakes are higher than ever. When his best friend, April, disappears from her bedroom in the middle of the night, no one, not even Theo Boone-who knows April better than anyone-has answers. As fear ripples through his small hometown and the police hit dead ends, it’s up to Theo to use his legal knowledge and investigative skills to chase down the truth and save April. Filled with the page-turning suspense that made John Grisham a #1 international bestseller and the undisputed master of the legal thriller, Theodore Boone’s trials and triumphs will keep readers guessing until the very end.

My review

Having read almost everything John Grisham has written I was looking forward to reading this second book in the Theodore Boone trilogy but I was actually a bit disappointed. What I hadn’t realised when I read the first one was that these are apparently written for 8-13 year olds and I think in this second book it shows. This is a good legal thriller/mystery for kids, although I think that the subject matter is a little old for under 10’s but I don’t think it’s as punchy for an adult read.

Although it’s part of a 3 part series, you don’t need to have read the first one to follow the plot, you can read as a standalone. It’s an easy read as you do get swept along in the whole adventure and I was keen to find out what happens but you do need to suspend your disbelief that a 13-year-old could outwit the Police. It did remind me a little of the movie The Goonies!

Read if you’re a John Grisham, mystery or thriller fan but don’t expect scary or blood and guts 🙂
