My month in books & bakes – January

What’s happened in January?

My bookish highlight of the month was a trip into Birmingham to attend my second blogger & author meet up hosted by Kim from digital publisher Bookouture.

I got into Birmingham a couple of hours before the event was to start as I had some shopping to do but also because I had a Waterstone’s gift voucher burning a hole in my pocket. The High Street branch has recently had a makeover so I was keen to spend some time just mooching around and see what I could buy. Well I couldn’t decide straight away….typical bookworm issues!

They have a lovely cafe on the 3rd floor (I think) so I decided to have a coffee and was tempted by a slice of Banana & Ginger cake which was delicious. It was so nice to sit and enjoy it and read my book and pass the time. Sometimes it’s all about the small pleasures.

I met up with Claire from Art & Soul for another quick look around the shop and then we went off the Bacchus for the meet up. I got to chat with several authors and bloggers; some of whom I’ve met before and some new faces. Was great to finally meet Shaz from Shaz’s Book Blog, Tracey Walsh and Rebecca Bradley. I got to grill Rebecca about certain procedures used in a novel I read recently; I hope she didn’t mind too much 😉

It was a really friendly group and very well supported. If you get the chance to go next time, you’ll have a great time.

Just the one, this is the book I used my Waterstone’s voucher to buy. It wasn’t a cheap purchase at £20.00 but it’s got a gorgeous cover and is over 700 pages long so I think I had value for money and being a gift I didn’t mind.

Oh god no way. I couldn’t do that to myself! I need something much shorter, my Goodreads challenge is already behind 😀
