Well you can tell the holidays are well and truly over as I only finished one book this week; but it was a book I really enjoyed.

Pretty Is by Maggie Mitchell
So far, this is good, it has engaged me but I’m yet to experience the wow that I’ve been hearing about. Plenty of time yet though.
Lois and Carly-May are just twelve years old when they’re abducted, driven across the country, and imprisoned in a remote, isolated hunting lodge for two months. That summer, under the watchful gaze of their kidnapper, they form a bond which will never be broken . . .
Decades later, both Lois and Carly-May have built new lives and identities for themselves. Lois, a professor of literature, is shaken when an obsessive student reminds her of the man who kidnapped her, a man she saw shoot himself on the porch twenty years before.
Out in LA, Carly-May is drinking too much and watching her beauty-queen looks fade, clinging to the last remnants of a once-promising career as an actress. When she reads a shockingly familiar screenplay, she warily she takes a role she knows is based on events from her own life.
Increasingly haunted by the devastating experience that shaped both their lives, Lois and Carly-May are drawn together again in a world that both echoes and falsifies their beautiful, terrible story.

The Marble Collector by Cecelia Ahern
This is the first Cecelia Ahern I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. Told as two points of view by Sabrina and her father Fergus and a with a dual time line this book could have been subtitled The Mystery of the Missing Marbles.
A forgotten childhood. A discovered life.
What if you only had one day to find out who you really were?
When Sabrina Boggs stumbles upon a mysterious collection of her father’s possessions, she discovers a truth where she never knew there was a lie. The familiar man she grew up with is suddenly a stranger to her.
An unexpected break in her monotonous daily routine leaves her just one day to unlock the secrets of the man she thought she knew. A day that unearths memories, stories and people she never knew existed. A day that changes her and those around her forever.
What’s up next?
The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen
Picked from my TBR jar I have to be honest, I bought this book from a charity shop based on its lovely cover. It’s a book about books which is good but it sounds fantastical which is not me. We’ll see…..
Ella Milana is a literature teacher, and the possessor of beautifully curving lips.
But when she starts trying to unearth the truth behind the Society, Ella finds a lot more than she bargained for. What is ‘The Game’? Why are the words inside books rearranging themselves? And what explains the strange disappearance of an author, in a whirlwind of snow?
Have you read any of this week’s choices or share what books you’re reading?
