Blogging from A-Z April Challenge – M

MM is for Murder Mysteries, Marple and Murder, She Wrote

Murder mysteries are my favourite genre for books, tv and for movies. As many as I read or watch I’m still never quite able to figure out ‘whodunnit’. Of course, the clues are there but I don’t seem to be able to pick them out. I probably just don’t pay enough attention.

I’ve been watching these TV shows for years, ever since I can remember – I still love to watch Murder, She Wrote and occasionally catch the odd episode that I haven’t seen. And Marple, even if I’ve seen it I’ll still watch them again – my favourite adaptation being The Mirror Crack’d starring Elizabeth Taylor. Joan Hickson is my favourite Miss Marple; there have been many others who’ve taken on the role including Margaret Rutherford, Helen Hayes, Geraldine McEwan and even Angela Lansbury.

Oh Angela Lansbury; doesn’t she come across as such a wonderful lovely grandmotherly type. I love that she’s an author in Murder, She Wrote and solves the case every time and I loved her voiceover in Beauty and the Beast.

Another of my faves is Lewis; for those of you who don’t know, the bottom left image is Lewis and is an English crime murder mystery drama set in Oxford. It’s a spin off from the popular Morse series which was a series based on the books by Colin Dexter. I’m not ashamed to say I’ve got a bit of a crush on Geordie Kevin Whateley in this show πŸ˜‰

Loved The Mirror Crack’d – that moment when the penny dropped & the look in Elizabeth Taylor’s face!
    Enjoying these posts Lindsay.

Oh I love this post! Mysteries are my fav as well, whether on TV or in a book. I’m a fan of each of the ones you mentioned and I wish Netfilx carried ALL of the Lewis series, not just one season! Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @

      Thanks Lisa.
Maybe Lewis will come to Netflix eventually, they do release new things all the time! Fingers crossed

Lewis’s “sidekick” looks like he could be my future son in law’s brother! I wondered if Lewis would be as good as Morse, and it is. Love the show. Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @

I agree that Joan Hickson was the best Miss Marple, and David Suchet was brilliant as Poirot. The British do such a great job of casting. I enjoyed your post very much.
