Since I’ve been blogging I’ve read quite a few debut novels. In the past I’ve been wary of trying new authors but since blogging and joining a book club I have become more open-minded to trying something..rather someone different.
The debuts I’ve read so far that were also published this year are:
By far and away one of the best debut novels I read last year was Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. If historical fiction and crime is your thing and even if it isn’t (because I didn’t think it would be either) you have to give this book a go.
Some of my other favourites from 2014 and fabulous debuts worth a mention are:
I also want to mention a book that I’ve read recently for book club called The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. This book was actually published in 2006 but I’d heard of it because of the BBC drama adaptation shown last year, so was really pleased when it was picked for our book club choice. Just shows that it doesn’t matter how old a debut novel is, it can still be enjoyed many years after…just like many classics I guess.
