Florist Rosie Duncan’s life couldn’t be better, she has a flourishing business on New York’s Upper West Side and fantastic friends. Moving to Manhattan feels like the best decision she ever made. Even though at the time, it was her escape route from heartbreak . . .
For the past six years Rosie has kept her heart under lock and key, despite the protests of her closest friends – charming, commitment-phobic Ed, unlucky in love Marnie and the one-woman tornado that is Celia.
Then a blossoming friendship with publishing hot-shot Nate begins to shake Rosie’s resolve at the same time as her brother arrives in the Big Apple, hiding a secret.
But a chance meeting brings Rosie face to face with her past, unravelling the mystery behind her arrival in New York.
Rosie is forced to confront questions she has long been trying to ignore, including will she ever get her very own happy-ever-after?
I was really excited to be selected to receive a Valentine’s giveaway from Miranda Dickinson and even more so that I got to choose which of Miranda’s novels would be in my parcel. Not having read any of her books before I went for the one set in New York as I love all books and movies set in New York.
From the beginning I was hooked on Rosie’s story and intrigued into what was her secret? Was she tragically dumped, assaulted, had an abortion, all these horrible things were racing through my mind – the thing she was keeping to herself and you do have to wait till approx 3/4 of the way to find out what happened but it does keep you reading and right up to the end you’re not sure where it’s going.
I loved the relationship between Rosie and her best friends: Ed, Celia and Marnie, these characters being really lovable but then you’ve also got your lovable rogue in Nate (who made for an interesting distraction for Rosie). And you’ve got your bitch factor with Mimi and Caitlin – character wise, they’re all there!
This is an easy, enjoyable read, you’ll fall in love with the story and the setting. The ending is a little predictable, but hey, we all love a happy ending don’t we??. Read if you’re a romantic at heart or just love Chick Lit 🙂
